Damai Bungalows is the perfect base to explore the surf Sumatra’s southern coast has to offer. We overlook the longest most consistent left hander in the region, Ujung Bocur, at the top of the point of Tanjung Setia. Over the last 13 years, we have developed a very loyal following of guests who come back time & time again as much for the waves as to “check back in” on their adopted Sumatran home. Keeping numbers to just 12 allows us to focus on making sure all our guests needs are attended to. We supply everything you need & nothing you don’t. All our staff are from the local villages & we are proud to say the vast majority of our staff have been with us since opening. Our surf camp on Sumatra’s southern coast has a 2 storey open air pavilion that sits a stones throw from the beach. Sit and watch the waves roll by or grab a beer and enjoy those famous Indonesian sunsets as it sets directly in front of you. On the ground floor is the kitchen, river stone bar and jati dining tables whilst upstairs provides a chilled out elevated view of the waves and surrounding mountains.
Traditional Indonesian lifestyle
Besides the waves in the Krui surf area, this part of Sumatra still provides an insight into traditional coastal village life. No disco’s or bars, no pushy hawkers trying to sell you things, no macca’s or KFC. Guests often tell us that once here they can feel the stress of life back home wash away as they sink into the Indonesian pace of doing things, which isn’t real fast. You wont die of stress out here.

Good meals are a huge part of any surf holiday. Over the past 13 years we have built up the reputation of having the area’s best meals. Ayu has trained all our kitchen staff on how to prepare and present our meals so they are plentiful & varied. NOBODY gets bored & NOBODY goes hungry at Damai.
Listening to feedback from our guests, you can now choose both breakfast & lunch with dinner being a buffet style meal. Choose what you want, when you want, all day. (3 meals inclusive in pricing)
Vegetarians can be catered for. Other specific dietary requirements will be assessed as they arise as long as prior notification is provided.

Damai Bungalows is locally designed & built accommodation 30km’s south of Krui. Rendered walls & tiled roofs with ceramic floors & large fully opening windows help to keep you cool. Each room is lockable & has its own veranda. Although safe, we have 24 hour security patrolling the grounds to keep all our gear safe. Our surf camp accommodates just 12 people in 6 twin share rooms with the following features:
