A very late hello to 2011
well we know it’s the start of june & there hasn’t been a blog entry for a long time. so we thought we’d better give an update on all that’s been happening up here since the start of february.
when i arrived back at the beginning of february besides being stoked to see ayu again i was also stocked to see that all the staff hard really worked hard over the wet season doing maintenance & adding a few nice additions. we listened to our punters last season & set about adding some paths, a board storage shed & some gardens to make damai bungalows a little better than last year. also much to chooky & the staff’s relief we extended the kitchen a little in the hope it may cool it down a bit
the wet season really dragged on this year, unusually the howling westerlies didn’t stop till basically the end of march, there were a few days in between & the couple of people around, & i do mean a couple, scored a few empty days out front.
into april we had our 1st guests, paul & jay. both got some nice waves but more importantly got to experience the err hot spring up in danau ranau. sadly the water levels have dropped a tad but these guys took it on anyway & made light of an otherwise embarrassing excursion. at least you guys got “lewaked” ….
around the same time we had a group from sydney, & possibly the most enthusiastic person damai’s ever met. leroi, as much as they complained your energy got the boys waves they wouldn’t of otherwise. you crammed more into your week than most do, i hope ya’s all had a holiday to get over your holiday…
calvin & our german mates were up next and scored some nice waves around the place, it was lucky we had a doctor staying with us to stitch up jonas’s lip when he kissed his board a bit to hard out the front…
next was the whirlwind tour from our mates in newcastle. honestly, what can i say??? its great when we have a full house of punters that REALLY know how to have a good time. i’m laughing as i type, these guys set a bar tab record that i dont think will be beaten in a hurry. i’ve got to say first that they all chased waves where ever they were on, they scored smoking jenny’s one day with just us out, they scored out the front more times than can be counted. they crashed bikes ( that hill is now known as ‘ craigs hill ‘ ), they managed an impressive 749 large bintang’s total in 10 days. special mention to tim on scoring 81 in 7 days & craig for winning the yellow jersey with 110 in 10 days. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! also to bob, i’ll never look at a tube of sunscreen the same again, great times from a great bunch of blokes. I’M KENNY F*&$ING POWERS hahahahahaha…
next up was the washbournes, poor ol ian had a rotten trot with the airlines but managed to hang in as long as he could, these rest of the guys got some waves, played a bootload of pool & generally just chilled out, nice. dave horn & the boys were soon to follow, got a little skunked on waves that week but made the most of their time here. even if they lacked some sleep with some shenanigans going on till late, sorry bout that..
late may seen a sordid crew arrive that corrupted me. chris from south africa, troy, simon & lawro from newie. i can never again look at my wifes lingerie again, period !! you all scored some smoking waves & grabbed the bull by the horns & hopefully had some rocking good times with us here. i’ll keep the tequila on ice till then hahaha….
just on a sad note, our friend & neighbour of 10 years, nev hines, sadly passed away on the 27/5/11. nev bought myself & bintang enam to krui in 2001 & helped us establish our little holiday shack. we spent alot of time together over the years & the one thing i’ll never forget is his deep belief of ” follow your dreams “. he provided inspiration to not just tow the line, but do what you want in life, not what they tell you. after his cremation we had a paddle out in front of his losman to scatter his ashes which was his request. during the ceremony of 1/2 an hour we encountered sun, wind, rain,a rainbow, lightning & thunder, not to mention a macking 10ft + swell. you bought it all to us big fella, we handled it all then partied like no other till the wee hours so send you off. i think you would have been proud. our deepest condolences to ani, stuart, greg and family from all us here at damai bungalows. rip mate ……….
and so the show goes on, the punters keep arriving & the sun still shines, as i write its offshore, 4 to 5 ft, reeling off down the point, & probably 32 degrees. a handful of punters lapping it up. we’re grateful be be here & be able to share our dream with punters the world over. we’ll try to get a bit more regular with the updates in future so be sure to check back again soon
( due to internet speeds here we post our photo’s on our facebook page as it loads way quicker
thats about it, to those that have been, we thank you. to those that are coming, look forward to meeting you. to those just thinking about it, ” do it ” !!!!!! LIVE YOUR DREAMS
peace ayu & jas…………….
