3 shades of 1 full day
hi again, just a quickie this time to show the diversity of the weather, waves & activities that the krui surf region can throw up from time to time.
return guests Jay & Paul we’re once again (last year they were our guinea pigs for a different adventure) roped into a wing it kind of adventure that may or may not of came off. big thanks to them as well as brian & ross for taking a chance with us.
night before last we we’re hit by a massive storm from about 1am on. wind, rain etc that shook everything, it wasn’t looking like it was going to one of our better days out here. we’d recently heard of a rafting experience around 3 hours up in the mountains from here, soooo with a bit of wrangling & a promise of nothing, we asked some of our guests to take a chance & go give it a try.
many phone calls later, over a collapsed bridge & who knows how many villages we arrived at the river. SIWA was our guide & true to his word he was their with all our gear, ready & waiting to go.
after a brief lesson in rafting we headed off on a 12km paddle through class 1,2 & 3 rapids. we did 360’s, we went sideways, we went backwards, we pretty much went any way the river wanted us to go. through a bit of translation Siwa described what we were passing through as well as what was coming. it started off fairly cruisy then some good grade 2 to 3 rapids threw us around for kilometers. with lunch waiting for us at the other end as well as a shower we gave this new activity the big “thumbs up”. if your a rafting nut it may be a bit tame but for a day out up in the hills on the river its well worth it (rain depending of coarse). many thanks to Siwa for the experience, we hope to be back again soon.
(disclaimer, some boofhead wearing the gopro set it to camera NOT video so the shots taken were actually when we thought we were starting/stopping video…….all the action was in between shots but it gives you an idea………..maybe next time………..)
after a beer & the drive back we were a bit shocked to see that the storm had passed & the wind swung back to offshore, with all our guests out surfing south sumatra’s longest left, ujung bocor…..after all the arvo waves we kicked back to enjoy a sick sunset & a big buffet….HAPPY DAYS..
early this morning we had swell, sun & offshores…….. nothing better than that
thanks for reading peoples…………….the south sumatran surf scene is kicking into gear & surfing krui & the surrounding waves should keep our guests outta trouble for a looong while yet
peace Ayu & the staff………….
